TEMPE – Head coach Graham Winkworth of Sun Devil soccer announced the team's leadership group for the 2024 season on Tuesday. Lucy Johnson will serve as captain, while Olivia Coleman and Lauren Kirberg were named vice captains.
"I'm very excited to give this responsibility to these ladies," Winkworth shared. "I feel that we have the perfect mix of leadership styles with them. I could not be happier for them and cannot wait to work more closely with them all."
Johnson has appeared in 47 games with 36 starts during her Sun Devil career. A defender from Nottingham, England, was vital to the team setting the program record with nine shutouts in 2023. Johnson tied for the team lead with eight assists as a junior, and she is 14th in program history with 12 career assists. Johnson has twice been named to the Pac-12 Honor Roll.
After battling injuries her first two seasons, Coleman appeared in 18 games with nine starts last season. The defender from Austin, Texas, finished with a career-high 856 minutes. Coleman is a two-time Pac-12 Honor Roll selection.
Kirberg was a stabilizing force for the Sun Devils in 2023, playing in all 21 games and leading the field players with 1,720 minutes. The defender from Peoria, Ariz., has played in 52 career games, where she has tallied four assists and attempted 10 shots.
