Jacob Meissner is a standout sophomore on the ASU Wrestling team. Coming from Minnesota, Meissner came to Arizona State as an All-American, State champion, and a three-year captain. Jacob answered a bunch of questions, get to know him better below…
 


Describe your feeling when you put on the ASU uniform for the first time: I felt super nervous, but excited to start this new journey of repping ASU on my back.

You have a chance to pick the brain of any coach of any sport for one hour...who is it? I would choose Bill Belichick because he has 9 super bowls, and I would ask him how to stay calm in bigtime moments.

One thing I want to impress upon the freshmen: One thing I would like to tell them is that they are supposed to be there! Give the starters respect, but train and act like you can beat out anyone in your spot because you are there for a reason.

My favorite professor and/or class at ASU: My favorite professor is Professor Chantel Solomon and in high school it was Mrs. Julie Raines.

The most upset you have ever been on the mat: The most upset I have ever been on the mat is when I was in middle school at a wrestling tournament, and I wanted to leave so bad so I told my dad I wanted pizza and that I was going to go out there and pin myself and that is exactly what I did.

The happiest you have ever been on the mat: The happiest I have ever been on the mat is when I won my second state title in Minnesota.

What's your walkout song? My walkout song is "Crazy Story Pt 3"

You have a chance to go watch one past sporting event live...what are you going to watch? I would watch the Heavyweight championship Ali vs Frazier.

What do you like best about your hometown? My family and my friends. Especially Anthony Lanari.

A movie you can watch over and over again: Wolf of Wall Street

Past Sun Devil (any sport) you wish you could have watched compete: ASU vs Penn State wrestling when we beat them in 2019.

Favorite song from your favorite artist? "Stay" Post Malone

Are you a good dancer? When was the last time you danced? I am not a good dancer, but dancing at my sister's wedding was fun and Prom with my best friend.


What is one of your favorite quotes? "If you ain't first, you're last" - Ricky Bobby

What chore do you absolutely hate doing? Washing the dishes

What is your favorite form of exercise? Bench Press

Who has been the biggest influence on your career? Carson Brolsma (Former Minnesota wrestler)

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Play the guitar

If you could meet anyone (past, present, or future) who would it be? Jesus

What did you do growing up that got you into trouble? Me and my boy Lanari would throw water balloons at cars, and they would chase us around the neighborhood.

What is your favorite show/series and why? My favorite show is by far "Suits" because the actors are so good, and the story never gets boring.


If you were a character on a show/series, which one would you be? I would be one of the lawyers on Suits .

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would they title it? "Why is he always getting in trouble"

Name one thing about yourself that most people don't know: I have played the piano for 7 years.

What is your favorite commercial? The one where the husband and wife are sitting in the delivery room because she is about to have her baby and the guy is holding a Dorito and you can see the baby on the screen following it when he moves it and then he is messing around with it and the wife takes it and yells at him then throws the chip on the opposite side of the room and then the baby flies towards it jumping out of the womb.



Game/event where you learned the most from? I learned the most from one of my events when I wrestled a ranked wrestler in the nation and I wasn't far out of his league making me understand that I can beat these top guys.

If you could live during any time period, when/where would it be and why? The wild west and I would be a bank robber with those guys.

What is the most important thing a parent/grandparent taught you? My parents taught me that life is not all about wrestling/sports.

What is the single biggest challenge of your life? Cutting weight

What is your favorite road trip destination? When I drove a couple hours to see my brother and his wife.

What toppings do you get on your pizza? The everything toppings

How do you like your steak cooked? Medium rare - rare

Favorite pro athlete you have been around: Ko and Chris Rodgers who played in the NFL

Most underrated coach you have been around: My Highschool defense of coordinator, Coach Lacombe who should be coaching at the D1 level.

Past Sun Devil game/event that you wish you would have been there live to see: Men's Basketball: ASU vs UCLA

What you know now that you wish you knew in high school: I wish I would have appreciated all of the memories like hanging with friends and playing sports in high school because there is nothing like high school memories and I wish I knew that back then so I could live in the moment more.

Typically, you are in bed and lights are out at: 10 but on my phone until 10:30-11.

Favorite month and why: June because it's my birthday month and start of summer.

What is your best childhood sports memory? Playing football with my friends

You have just won the lottery, what is your first purchase? An Apartment then rent it out and make a bag.

What is your favorite sport to watch? Football

What is your favorite restaurant? Teresa's Mexican grill

What do you miss most about being a child? Doing stupid things like sneaking out at night with Anthony Lanari

What is your favorite candy? Nerd ropes but the balled up ones.

One sentence to describe your family: Half quiet, Half Loud.

What is a place that you have always wanted to visit? Italy

What was the most exciting game you have ever been a part of (as a fan or as a player)? The last football game I played with my brother.
