Sun Devil three-time All-American, and two-time national champion Zahid Valencia has stayed busy since graduating in 2020, including the past summer that saw him earn the 92kg spot on the USA Wrestling world team in the Final X tournament, and take gold at the Polyak Imre & Varga Janos Memorial tournament in Budapest, Hungary. Valencia will continue his illustrious career on the mats this weekend as the No. 3 seed on Sunday, Sep. 19, in a qualifying round that will begin at 1:30 a.m. MST.

There are 90 qualification berths to the 2024 Paris Olympics on the line, with five berths being allocated in each of the 18 weight classes. The gold, silver, bronze, and bronze medalists will each receive a berth, and a bout between the two losers of the bronze medal matches will decide the fifth allocation. This is the first tournament with qualification berths available, and the Continental and World Qualification Tournaments will allocate 144 and 54, respectively, to bring the total to 288 wrestlers.
