TEMPE - Sun Devil Women's Golf alumnae Wendy Ward, Brandie Burton, and Danielle Ammacapane will compete in the 2023 U.S. Senior Women's Open, taking place Aug. 24-27 at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Oregon.

The four-day, 72-hole event brings together the top female golfers over the age of 50, with several former LPGA Champions competing in the field. It is only the fifth edition of the event, part of the LPGA's Senior Tour.

Each of the previous four versions of the U.S. Senior Women's Open have included Danielle Ammacapane, as she looks to continue her history of success at the event dating back to 2018. This marks the second straight edition in which Brandie Burton has earned a spot in the field. Wendy Ward will be making her U.S. Senior Women's Open debut.

"I am so excited to watch three great representatives of our program at the U.S. Senior Women's Open," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye exclaimed. "Brandie, Danielle, and Wendy all had amazing professional careers and it is great to see them still competing at a high level."

Wendy Ward qualified thanks to her victory in the 1994 U.S. Women's Amateur, which gave her an automatic berth into the event after turning 50. She has enjoyed one of the most succesful professional careers of any Sun Devil Women's Golfer, winning on the LPGA Tour four times. She also was a member of Team USA at the Solheim Cup three different times (2002, 2003, 2005). A 2007 inductee to the Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame, Ward is one of the most acclaimed female golfers in Arizona State's illustrious history. A four-time All-American, shehelped Arizona State win three consecutive national championships while finishing second individually in 1994 and 1995.

Danielle Ammacapane received an automic berth in the event because of her status as the 1985 U.S. Women's Amatuer Public Links Champion. She finished tied for fourth in the first U.S. Senior Women's Open in 2018, following that up with a T7th place finish in 2019. The 1997 Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame inductee was a three-time first-team All-America selection while at ASU. She won the 1985 NCAA women's golf championship, becoming the fifth female golfer in program history to win the national champion. She was named Golf Magazine's College Player of the Year and Golf Digest's Female Amateur of the Year as a sophomore. A four-time-all-conference pick, she won the 1987 Pacific-10 Championship crown on her way to posting what was then a school-record nine collegiate tournament victories. While on the LPGA Tour, she won seven times and put together one of the most decorated careers of any former Sun Devil golfer.

Brandie Burton qualified due to her 1993 and 1998 victories at the du Maurier Classic, an LPGA Tour Major Championship. She was a member of the 2008 Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame class after making her mark at ASU in just one season. As a freshman, the 1989 U.S. Junior Girl's Champion won the first five college tournaments she finished. She would later add the Pac-10 individual title, giving her six wins on the season. Eventually Burton and the Sun Devils would capture the program's first National Title in 1990, alongside current Sun Devil Women's Golf Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye. Burton was named National Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American, and after playing for the U.S. Curtis Cup Team, she moved on to an LPGA career where she won five times, including two majors. She also represented Team USA at the Solheim Cup five times (1992, '94, '96, '98, 2000).

The Sun Devil trio will compete in a field of 120 golfers, including former LPGA stars Annika Sorenstam and Juli Inkster. The best 50 golfers after the first two rounds will make the cut and advance to the final two days. The final two days of the event will be aired on GOLF Channel and Peacock. The Par 72, 6,112-yard Wavereley Country Club course has previously hosted U.S. Men's and Women's Amateurs.

Sun Devil Women's Golf legend and former LPGA Tour standout Michelle Estill competed in the event back in 2021.
