THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. – Sun Devil Hockey alum Joey Daccord and the Coachella Valley Firebirds are headed to the American Hockey League (AHL) Calder Cup Finals after defeating the Milwaukee Admirals, 4-3, led by Daccord's 29 saves and his 12th victory of the postseason. The Firebirds will faceoff against the Hershey Bears on Thursday, June 8 at 7 p.m. MST in game one of the Calder Cup Final.
The Calder Cup Finals is a best of seven series. It starts with two games in Coachella Valley followed by three possible games in Hersey, Pennsylvania. If the series requires a game six and seven, those games will take place in California.
The Firebirds are affiliated with the NHL's Seattle Kraken, who also competed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in franchise history, ultimately falling to the Dallas Stars in seven games of the second round.
In the Calder Cup Playoffs, Daccord posted a 12-7 record while registering 569 saves and boasting a 0.924 save percentage, which both rank first in the league in the postseason, while allowing 2.57 GAA.
During the regular season, he also made five appearances in the NHL with the Seattle Kraken, registering a .900 save percentage and 3.14 GAA. With the Firebirds he appeared in 38 games and notched 26 wins and three shutouts with a .918 save percentage.
Daccord represented the Sun Devils from 2016-19, leading the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019 with a 21-13-1 record. In his career with ASU, he posted 32 victories in 82 appearances in net with a 3.07 GAA and a .913 save percentage while holding the program record with eight shutouts.
In his postseason career in the AHL he has compiled 15 wins, two shutouts with 729 saves, a .914 save percentage while only allowing 2.59 GAA.
