TEMPE, Ariz. – A quick and efficient day of work for the No. 23 Sun Devils.
Backed by strong doubles play and winning four of six first sets in singles, the Sun Devils (15-5, 5-3) dispatched No. 54 Colorado, 4-0, in just 90 minutes on Friday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
The Sun Devils have now won 19 consecutive matches at home in a streak that dates back to March 5, 2022.
Freshman Chelsea Fontenel delivered the dagger, defeating Elys Ventura, 6-0, 6-3, on Court 2 for her 14th win of the spring. Domenika Turkovic, in her penultimate match in Tempe, beat Mila Stanojevic moments earlier (6-2, 6-3) to give the Sun Devils a 3-0 edge.
Rachel Hanford was the first Sun Devil off courtesy of a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Carri Hayes. It took just over an hour for Fontenel, Turkovic and Hanford to grab the trio of decisive wins.
It was complete domination from the Sun Devils in doubles to begin play against the Buffaloes, a sign of what was to come on Friday in Tempe. Neither duo across all three courts dropped a game, and Giulia Morlet/Sedona Gallagher (Court 2) and Marianna Argyrokastriti/Chelsea Fontenel (Court 3) delivered 6-0 wins minutes apart from one another.
Domenika Turkovic/Patricija Spaka, ranked No. 20 in the nation, were leading 5-0 on Court 1 at the time of Argyrokastriti/Fontenel clinching across the way. The Sun Devils have now won the doubles point in 15 of 20 matches this spring.
After dropping two consecutive matches weeks ago against Cal and Stanford, the Sun Devils have responded with three straight wins against top-50 conference opponents.
