ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Under the northern lights, the Arizona State ice hockey team (16-20-0) executed a night to remember in a 5-0 victory against Alaska Anchorage (6-19-0). ASU senior goaltender Ben Kraws recorded his first career NCAA shutout and club hockey call-up skater Brendan Studioso scored a power play goal in his first-ever appearance in NCAA competition. Josh Doan also set a new career high for points in a single game with four.
Five different Sun Devil skaters cashed in on the goal-scoring action including Ethan Szmagaj, Chris Grando, Ryan Alexander, Josh Doan, and Studioso.
The Friday night victory extends ASU's winning streak against UAA to five-straight games dating back to pre-COVID 2020.
FEAR THE KRAW
Ben Kraws made his second start of the season and tallied 23 saves en route to his first career shutout. Kraws and the fourth-ranked penalty kill squad in the country held the Seawolves silent through four power play opportunities on Friday night.
CINDERELLA STORY
Last week, Brendan Studioso got the call-up from ASU's ACHA Division I club team to join the ranks of the NCAA Division I program for the final four games. Studioso competed in his first NCAA competition against the Seawolves - poetically similar to how the ASU Division I program played its first-ever DI game against Alaska Anchorage. The senior from Washington scored ASU's fifth and final goal in the 5-0 victory.
DOMINANT DOAN
Josh Doan completed his first four-point night of his collegiate career with a goal and three assists against the Seawolves. Doan has tallied two three-point nights this year and five total over the course of his NCAA career. With his points on the board tonight, Doan extends his point-scoring streak to six straight games over the course of a month. The streak includes six goals and five assists for 11 points.
UP NEXT: ASU looks to keep the Seawolves quiet in the series finale tomorrow, Saturday, March 4 at 7:07 p.m. MST. UAA provides a free stream to catch all the action on the UAA YouTube channel.
