No. 2/3 Arizona State Men's Golf travels down south and will compete in the 2023 National Invitational Friday and Saturday in Tucson. Arizona State has moved up in both ranking polls (Golfweek, Golfstat) after its third place finish in Cabo. It was ASU's first event in over a month after the Amer Ari was canceled due to wind. The Sun Devils will run the same lineup into Tucson for consecutive weeks and have Kiko Coelho and Gabe Salvanera competing in the individual bracket.
THE LINEUP
- The Sun Devils will send Ryggs Johnston, Preston Summerhays, Josele Ballester, Luke Potter and Michael Mjaaseth to the Cabo Collegiate.
- It is the second straight week that the Maroon and Gold have used the same lineup.
- Kiko Coelho and Gabe Salvanera will compete in the individual bracket.
- ASU will play 36 holes on Friday's day one. Each set of 18 holes will count as its own round.
- It marks the first and only planned time this season ASU is going to play 36 holes in a single day.
- ASU is one of three Pac-12 teams in the field, including the host Wildcats and USC.
- Other notable squads in the 13-team field include Pepperdine and Oklahoma State.
- Omni Tucson National is a par-72, 7,200 yard course.
- The three rounds will take place over two days, with 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday.
- Luke Potter has carded three straight top-10 finishes (T1, 4th, 10th), the first three top 10 finishes of his Sun Devil career.
- Potter has played in 13 career rounds and has a scoring average of 70.15, including a -0.69 average score against par.
- He is ranked seventh in the nation as an individual per Golfweek (USA Today). In his young career, he is 251-61-11 against other individuals including a 34-32-2 mark against top 50 men.
- Potter is the third ranked freshman in the nation on Golfweek
- The Sun Devils are ranked second in the country by Golfweek. It is a one place improvement since the start of the Cabo Collegiate.
- ASU is third in the land per Golfstat. It's a 16-spot improvement after the third place finish in Cabo.
- In its three fall tournaments, ASU had its best team performance in the second round each time.
- During the Cabo Collegiate, ASU shot 4-under 280 in the second round, its best performance of the event.
- Tournament-high winds on day two of the Southwestern Invitational caused 10 of the 12 teams to shoot worse than the first round, including ASU.
