HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Sun Devil Women's Golf put the finishing touches on a sixth-place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
Arizona State represented themselves extremely well on national television as a part of the only televised regular season women's collegiate golf tournament on GOLF Channel. At an event featuring 16 of the Top-46 and 14 of the Top-32 teams in the latest Golfstat rankings, Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team finished in sixth. Four of the five teams that finished ahead of them are ranked in the Top-10.
Three Sun Devils finished in the Top-25 of the individual race, led by Ashley Menne. Menne had the best round of any Sun Devil throughout the three days, delivering a 69 (-2). She made a jump up the standings for the second consecutive day, eventually finishing in a tie for 13th. Not far behind was freshman Paula Schulz-Hanssen, who continued her strong play by finishing tied for 16th. Fellow freshman Beth Coulter was the third Sun Devil in the Top-25 in a field that boasted 23 of the Top-52 and 41 of the Top-100 golfers in the latest Golfstat rankings.
The Maroon & Gold continue building momentum throughout the Spring campaign, already rising six spots in the Golfstat team rankings. They look to build on another strong finish when they host the Cactus Cup March 13-14 at Papago Golf Club. This match-play style event will feature some of the top teams in the nation and give fans a glimpse of what they could see at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale at the 2023 NCAA Women's Golf Championships.
ROUND BREAKDOWN
Arizona State started their round on the first hole and it took some time for the team to establish a rhythm. One Sun Devil who did not have that problem was Ashley Menne, as she came out on a mission. Menne went two-under over her first eight holes including birdies on the third and fifth holes. Paula Schulz-Hanssen avoided any mistakes over her final eight holes of the front nine as ASU maintained their positioning.
The Sun Devils put forth a tremendous effort to finish the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, shaving eight strokes off their score from the front to back nine. The team managed to regroup and deliver an excellent final nine holes, recording six birdies. Ashley Menne was flawless en route to going two-under over her final nine and continuing her climb up the leaderboard. Grace Summerhays also had two birdies, saving her best for last by recording birdies on two of her final three holes. Beth Coulter had two birdies of her own as she got back to even on the day.

"This was a solid week for us finishing sixth," Coach Farr-Kaye reflected. "We beat a few teams that were ranked ahead of us, which is always exciting. We had a good finish coming down the stretch. Overall a solid week and we greatly appreciated the members and everyone at Long Cove and Darius Rucker for putting on such a fabulous event."
"There are a couple of things that we need to continue to work on and then we will be ready for our next event," Coach Farr-Kaye added. "We have a 54-hole match play tournament with some really good teams and then we are excited to host PING/ASU."

Arizona State will make their second appearance in Arizona when they host the first-ever Cactus Cup in March. The two-day event is scheduled for match play format and will feature South Carolina, Virginia, and UCLA. Four NCAA Championship competitors will get a taste of Match Play, which is used to determine the NCAA Championship. ASU benefited from a similar experience at the Niklaus Cup in 2021-22, with Coach Farr-Kaye bringing a unique event to the backyard of Sun Devil fans, taking place at Papago Golf Club.

Arizona State and the Thunderbirds will host the NCAA Men's and Women's Golf Championships for the third consecutive year, taking place at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale May 19-31. This is the final of successful three-year run as the host school of the most prestigious event in all of college golf.
