TEMPE – The No. 23 Sun Devil Women's Tennis team defeated No. 17 San Diego Toreros, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center to advance to 7-1 on the young season.
Sedona Gallagher and Giulia Morlet fought in a close doubles match against their opponents, but ultimately grabbed the first doubles point for the Sun Devils. Marianna Argyrokastriti and Chelsea Fontenel won their match, 7-5, to clinch in doubles point over the Toreros.
Domenika Turkovic handily defeated San Diego's Claudia De Las Heras (6-3, 6-0) to take the first singles victory for ASU. Sedona Gallagher won straight sets, both 6-2, to win a second singles match for the Sun Devils. Giulia Morlet followed up with a victory over Solymar Colling (6-3, 6-3), giving the Sun Devils four points as a team and securing the victory for ASU.
The Sun Devils are now perfect in their last eight contests against the Toreros.

Head coach Sheila McInerney: "Really proud of the team today. I thought we played very well overall and competed great. USD has had a really good start to their season and they came in and played well and aggressively. We fought hard and were tough.
"Super happy with the way we started in the doubles as #2 and #3 doubles were both aggressive and played with great energy. We started strong in the singles winning four first sets and Domi, Sedona, and Giu closed out their matches quickly, which was helpful. Nice win for us and hopefully we can build on this for our match against SMU on Wednesday."
