PHOENIX – The Sun Devil men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start on offense that contributed to a 65-46 loss to Northwestern on Wednesday night at Footprint Center in the Jerry Colangelo Hall of Fame Series.
Frankie Collins led scoring for the Sun Devils with 10 points, his 10th game this year achieving double-figures. He also led the team with four assists. It also is the juniors' seventh game this season with three or more steals. Junior Bryant Selebangue snatched a season high seven rebounds and posted seven points off the bench, going 3-for-3.
In the second half, the Sun Devils outscored the Wildcats shooting 11-of-25 from the field. Freshman Akil Watson scored a season high seven points, all in the second half, going 3-for-4.
Arizona State (6-5) will have a break before beginning conference play with a trip to the Bay Area to face Stanford (December 29 at 9 p.m. MT) and Cal (December 31 at 6 p.m. MT). Both games can be seen on ESPN2 and can be heard on the radio waves on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM with Tim Healey and Kyle Dodd on the call.
"I'm a fighter and I'll keep pushing," Hurley said. "Coach Kimbrough and I talked about this, we work very hard and said to make this an NCAA tournament program and we did that last year. It was a really fun team to watch and we're not having a great season right now. But we're going to fight for the program and do what we have to do to change this."
