SAN FRANCISCO – For the second time this season, Sun Devil soccer goalkeeper Pauline Nelles has been named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. It's her second weekly award of the season.
Nelles began the week by setting the ASU record for shutouts in a season with her ninth in a 1-0 upset of No. 11 USC on Thursday. She then tied a career-high with nine saves – including one on a penalty kick – in a tough 1-0 loss to No. 2 UCLA. It's the second time this season the Bruins didn't score multiple goals in a game.
The UCLA goal snapped her shutout streak at 336 minutes, 37 seconds, dating back to October 8. That ranks as the seventh-longest shutout streak in program history.
Nelles currently leads the Pac-12 in save percentage (.885) and with those nine shutouts. She is second with a 0.53 goals-against-average and with 10 wins.
This is the first time in program history a Sun Devil keeper has won the weekly award twice in the same season. It's only the seventh time an ASU player has been honored by the conference multiple times in a season.
ASU has three games remaining in the regular season, with a trip to Utah and Colorado up this week.
