TEMPE -- Sun Devil Hockey catapults into the national polls after completing a series sweep over then-No. 15 Merrimack at Mullett Arena on opening weekend. USCHO.com Poll voters placed ASU at No. 18 and the USA Hockey/The Rink Live Poll gave the No. 19 spot to the Sun Devils.
The last time ASU was ranked in the USCHO.com Poll was at No. 20 on December 7, 2020. That season ASU competed solely on the road against Big Ten opponents due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the first two games of the season, Matthew Kopperud called game, collecting both game-winning goals against the Warriors last weekend. His two game-winning goals so far this season is tied for first in the NCAA.
TJ Semptimphelter is one of 12 goaltenders who completed a shutout last weekend, but he was one of only one to do so against a ranked opponent.
This weekend, ASU hosts Northern Michigan, who is receiving votes in the USCHO.com Poll on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21.
