Sun Devil Outlook
Arizona State (0-0, 0-0 Pac-12)
  • In the first meet of the season, the Gym Devils will face BYU, Cal and Iowa, all of whom finished in the top 25 on Road to Nationals in 2022.
  • The Sun Devils enter the season ranked No. 24 on the WGCA preseason poll with eight of their opponents this season ranked in the top 25 of that poll. In the Pac-12 Preseason Poll, ASU was picked seventh.
  • The team returns all but three routines from 2022 and adds five freshmen with a lot of solid experience. Two Gym Devils were named to the inaugural 2023 Pac-12 Preseason Watchlist: senior Hannah Scharf and junior Emily White.
Opponent Outlook
  • All three of ASU's opponents were ranked in the top 25 on Road to Nationals to finish the 2022 season: Cal was No. 11, Iowa was No. 15 and BYU was No. 24. In the WCGA Preseason Poll, Cal is No. 8, Iowa is No. 18 and BYU is No. 22.
  • Arizona State leads BYU in the all-time series 11-1. They last competed against each other in 2021 in Tempe, with ASU getting the win.
  • Fellow Pac-12 team Cal will be in the session. Last season when these two teams met, the Gym Devils ended the Bears' undefeated season. The two teams were co-Pac-12 Regular Season Champions, alongside Oregon State and Utah.
  • ASU and Iowa have faced off four times, with the Sun Devils leading 3-1 in the all-time series. The last meeting was in 2018 when the Gym Devils took second at a quad meet and the Hawkeyes finished in fourth.
