TEMPE – Sun Devil Triathlon will turn the page towards winning a seventh consecutive national title when it opens the 2023 season with the Duel in the Desert on Saturday. The relay duathlon and swim competition will be held on the ASU campus and is the first meeting against Arizona.

The day starts with relay teams of three competing in a bike-run duathlon at the ASU Band Field. Each participant will take three laps around the bike course before transitioning to a run of two laps around the field.

After the duathlon, the competition will move to the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center for the swim competition. A 100-meter race will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a 500-meter race to follow shortly after at approximately 10:45 a.m.

The Duel in the Desert is the first of four races for Sun Devil triathlon this season. Seniors Katy Clausen and Amber Schlebusch lead a strong mix of experienced returners and talented newcomers.

ASU is coming off a solid spring and summer in which Naomi Ruff (USA) and Sidney Clement (Canada) each won a Junior National Championship. Faith Dasso led three Sun Devils that competed at the Junior World Championships in Hamburg, Germany, by placing 13th.
