TEMPE – Sun Devil Soccer will hit the road this week for their first away matches of the 2023-24 athletic season with both games available to stream on ESPN+. The Sun Devils will face New Mexico State on Thursday, August 24 at 6 p.m. MST in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Maroon and Gold comes off opening weekend with two shutouts earned at home. They hosted Wright State which ended in a 4-0 win where both Keri Matthews and Enasia Colon each recorded a brace. Matthews came fresh out of halftime scoring her first goal just 48 seconds after kickoff and her second nearly four minutes later in the 49th minute. Colon doubled the lead quickly by scoring her pair of goals against the Raiders in the 74th minute and again in the 77th minute to seal the season opener win for the Sun Devils.

The following Sunday, the Sun Devils faced the Mississippi State Bulldogs but neither team was able to put the ball into the back of the net as the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Sun Devil goalkeeper Pauline Nelles was named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week after having a combined nine saves against Wright State and Mississippi State, earning back-to-back Sun Devil shutouts. She was one save shy of tying her single-game save mark with eight against Mississippi State (10/14/23 - 9 vs Utah).

New Mexico State is heading into Thursday's match with a 1-1 record as the Aggies defeated Portland State 2-1 in their opening match with goals coming from midfielders Gianna Valenti and Loma McNeese. Sunday's match for the Aggies fell to Texas Tech 5-0, only recording one shot on goal.

The Miners still are searching for their first win this week as they'll Sun Devils on Sunday, as the Miner's home opener was a 3-2 defeat against Northern Arizona on Aug. 17 after an 87th minute winner from Northern Arizona.

The Sun Devils sit throughout the Pac-12 leaders lists heading into their matches this weekend. Colon and Matthews sit atop the Pac-12 offensive leaders list for their shared total of four goals as well as Arizona State forward Suzuka Yosue for her two assists in the game against the Raiders. Alongside her Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week recognition, Nelles is the only keeper with two shutouts and falls in third place within the conference for her nine saves across two games.
