TEMPE – Sun Devil Triathlon announced its schedule for the 2023 season on Friday afternoon. The six-time defending national champions will compete in three events before defending their crown at the Collegiate Triathlon National Championship on November 11 in Tempe.

Entering the program's eighth season, the 2023 squad features a balanced mix of experienced returners, young returners ready to make an impact, and three newcomers with plenty of potential.

"We are so excited to get our eighth season started," English said. "We have a young and talented team with three incoming freshmen in Sidney Clement, Britney Brown and Zoe Mari Adam, joining last year's National Champion Amber Schlebusch. We also return senior Katy Clausen, juniors Camille Buchanan, Evan Welch and MJ Lopez Aguirre, and sophomores Faith Dasso, Naomi Ruff, Madison Judas and Heidi Jurankova."

The Sun Devils are coming off a spring and summer season that featured a pair of Junior National Champions, three qualifying for the Junior World Championships in Germany, and several podium finishes.

English added, "We are coming off a very successful summer with many great results. We saw Sid and Naomi win Junior national titles for Canada and USA, respectively. Faith finished her Junior Elite time with a solid third-place finish. Three women competed at the Junior World championships in Hamburg, Germany, with Faith finishing 13th as our top performer."

New year, same goal.

Arizona State will host the Duel in the Desert against Arizona to begin the season on September 2. The event will commence with a bike-run team relay duathlon with teams of three individuals. The action will then move to the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center for a combined swim event of 100- and 500-yard free swim races.

The schedule takes the team to Fort Worth, Texas, on September 17, for the first-ever Battle in the Fort Triathlon. In its first season of competition, TCU hosts the event, and it will mark the first time ASU has competed in a race in Texas.

The Western Regional Qualifier will occur on October 14 in Springfield, Mo. The race moves to Fellows Lake this season, where the Sun Devils will enter as the defensive West Qualifier champions.

ASU will defend its six straight national titles at the Collegiate Triathlon National Championship on November 11 at Tempe Town Lake. The site has served as host for the past five races dating back to the 2017 season.

"This season will see Amber focusing on defending her NCAA title while working towards 2024 Olympic qualification for South Africa. That has this team ready and hungry to fight, and we can't wait to get it started!" English concluded.

The Collegiate Triathlon National Championship is part of the Sun Devil Triathlon Classic with racing opportunities for Age Group, Elite and Collegiate triathletes. The full day of events includes the Challenge Cup Age Group Draft Legal Sprint, a 1.2-Mile Open Water Swim and the 2023 Women's Collegiate Triathlon Championships.

New for 2023 is the Challenge Cup, where top Age Group athletes, All-Americans and Collegiate Clubs from around the country are invited to end their season in a head-to-head, draft legal race. With 2024 Age Group Draft Legal World Cup slots on the line, we expect some competitive draft legal racing! World Cup slots will be awarded on a roll-down basis for each age group, male and female.

Registration and more information for the 2023 Sun Devil Triathlon Classic are available on the event's website.
