This is the third time that Menne has been crowned the top amateur in the state, previously winning the title in 2020 and 2021. She becomes on the fourth golfer in the history of Arizona to win three stroke play championships in her amateur career. Menne continued a successful offseason with a victory at local Desert Highlands Golf Course.
"What an amazing accomplishment for Ashley to win the AZ State Am for the 3rd time! She joins an amazing group of Sun Devils including my sister Heather. We are so proud of Ashley and all of her many accomplishments and are excited to see what successes her upcoming Senior year will unfold."
A total of 36 competitors were vying for the title in the Championship Division at the three-round stroke play event. Menne made up a four-stroke deficit on the first day, shooting a 213 (-3) to capture a two-stroke victory. After opening up with back-to-back 70's (-2), she sealed the win with a 73 (+1) on a final day in which most of the competition faltered. Menne finished first in a field that included Arkansas' Abbey Schutte, Arizona's Sydney Bryan, Colorado's Carolyn Fuller, Cal Poly's Vannesa Wang, Northern Arizona's Amy Hodkins, and UCLA's Jennifer Seo.
"I was glad that I was able to pull through," Menne told the Arizona Golf Association after the win. "I love to chip, so I'm glad my chipping saved me today."
EXCLUSIVE COMPANY
By winning her third career Arizona Female Amateur Stroke Play Championship, Ashley Menne joins some exclusive company. Only three other golfers in the history of the state had accomplished the feat prior to Menne. The three previous three-time winners all has one thing in common - they were also Sun Devils. Menne joins Arizona golfing legends Julie Stanger, Heather Farr, and Tui Selvaratnam in capturing three Arizona Female Amateur Titles. Heather Farr's sister, current Sun Devil Women's Golf Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye, also was an Arizona Amateur Champion of her own.
NORTH & SOUTH STROKE PLAY CHAMPION
Earlier in the offseason, senior Ashley Menne won the North and South Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Taking place at famed Pinehurst Golf Resort, home of the 2024 U.S. Open, Menne was brilliant during the two-round event. She beat out 119 fellow collegiate amateur golfers to capture the title in the 121st edition of the historic North and South Women's Amateur. Menne fired a 68 (-4) in the opening round on Pinehurst Course No. 4 and was one stroke back of first after day one. It was her 71 (-1) in round two that was the deciding factor, as she managed Pinehurst Course No. 2 beautifully to claim a one-stroke victory. By virtue of her first place finish at 138 (-5) in stroke play, Menne clinched the No. 1 seed in Match Play.
THREE-TIME ALL-AMERICAN
By virtue of her selection to the WGCA All-American Second Team back in June, Ashley Menne has now been named an All-American in each of her first three seasons in Tempe. She becomes the first Sun Devil since Olivia Mehaffey (2017-21) to earn All-American honors in each of her first three years. Next year, Menne could join some exclusive company. Should she earn a fourth All-American distinction, she would become only the fourth four-time All-American in program history. Only legendary figures Olivia Mehaffey, Azahara Munoz (2006-09) and Kellee Booth (1995-98) have accomplished this impressive feat.
GOLFWEEK THIRD TEAM ALL-AMERICAN
Menne is one of only 10 individuals to receive Third Team All-American distinction from Golfweek following the 2022-23 season. This is the second straight year she has earned a spot on one of Golfweek's All-American teams. Following the end of last season, Menne was named a 2021-22 Golfweek Honorable Mention All-American. Thanks to an offseason full of hard work and dedication, Menne was elevated to the Third Team following her third season in Tempe. By virtue of this honor, she is considered one of the Top-30 golfers in the nation by the media.
2023 SEASON
The Surprise, Arizona native continued her steady development since arriving at ASU, as she becomes one of the most decorated golfers at the collegiate level. Menne earned WGCA Second Team All-American honors thanks to an outstanding junior season in which she competed against and beat some of the top golfers in the nation. In leading Arizona State to a No. 2 seed at the Raleigh Regional and a final ranking of No. 14 nationally, Menne was extremely consistent throughout the campaign. She shot 14 rounds of par or better, including four rounds in the 60s. This resulted in three Top-10 and eight Top-20 finishes. Menne received Pac-12 Golfer of the Week honors on March 28 after finishing tied for fourth at PING/ASU Invitational. For her efforts, she was awarded a spot on the Pac-12 All-Conference Team.
PAC-12 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Arizona State landed four individuals on the Pac-12 All-Conference teams, tied with Oregon and USC for the most selections of any school. Ashley Menne was one of only 12 golfers named to the First Team in arguably the deepest conference in the country. It was her third-consecutive year earning All-Conference distinction.
PALMER CUP CHAMPION
Ashley Menne was one of six United States female committee selections for the annual Arnold Palmer Cup, after finishing just outside the automatic qualifying threshold. After not even being included in the initial rankings released in the Fall, Menne came in at No. 8 in the final United States female Palmer Cup rankings, making a dramatic climb throughout the Spring.
Team USA, featuring Men's Golf's Preston Summerhays and Women's Golf's Ashley Menne, won the 2023 Palmer Cup in June at Laurel Valley Golf Club. The duo combined to collect five of Team USA's 32 points, as they defeated the International side 32-28. The United States now leads the all-time Palmer Cup series 14-12-1.
FINAL RANKINGS
Golfstat and Golfweek released their final rankings of the 2022-23 collegiate women's golf season. Menne finished No. 22 according to Golfstat and ended No. 23 in Golfweek's metrics, proving worthy throughout the year of All-American status.
