The goal is to qualify for the World Championships in Budapest (Aug. 19-27), and the most straightforward way to get in is for athletes to finish top-3 in their respective events. Robinson and Curry have hit their World Championships qualifying standards, and Washington is just shy of having a qualifying mark. Ewen has her mark for the shot put, and Benard is just shy of the TJ mark. Reniwicki needs PRs in both the 5,000m and 1500m to hit the standard. Sun Devils Gamali Felix (Grenada) and Dubem Nwachukwu (Nigeria) are both also looking to qualify in the 400m for their respective home countries.

Washington has become a household name over the past three seasons. With the Maroon and Gold he collected nine All-America honors, five NCAA titles, the NCAA indoor shot record, and ASU's discus record. On May 20 he finished fourth at the USATF Throws Festival in Tucson (63.52m) - his first and only pro meet since April 2022 when he finished sixth in the discus at the USATF Golden Games at Mt. SAC. Washington enters the weekend ranked 18th in the world in the discus. Washington enters the weekend with the No. 2 mark out of all qualifiers.

Robinson earned five All-America honors in 2023 across the indoor and outdoor 400m, 4x400, and 4x100. He's just running the 400m this weekend, where his lifetime best is the 44.51 he ran at this past NCAA Outdoor Championships. Robinson won the USATF Indoor Championships in 45.40 after running 45.48 in prelims. Robinson has the No. 4 time heading into the weekend.

Curry has had a vertical progression since transferring to ASU ahead of the 2023 season. He shattered the program's outdoor 200m when he went 20.15 for silver at the Pac-12 Championships. He then joined Robinson in helping ASU's 4x100 (38.54) and 4x400 (2:57.78) relays to All-America finishes at the NCAA Championships while finishing 12th in the 200m.

Ewen has only gotten better since graduating from ASU. The four-time NCAA champion and 11-time First Team All-American is No. 5 in the world in the shot put and No. 25 in the world in the hammer throw. She's won five events across both disciplines this outdoor season and in September 2021 earned her first Diamond League crown. She's finished top-3 in both DL meets she's thrown shot in this year.

Benard enters the USATF Championships ranked 21st in the world in the triple jump. He won gold at the 2022 NACAC Championships and finished 16th in the 2022 World Championships. Benard was a two-time CCCAA Outdoor champion and won three conference titles after transferring to ASU. This season he's won one of the three pro meets he's competed in and in 2022 he won three titles and finished third at the 2022 USATF Outdoor Championships.

Reniewicki has been grinding with Under Armour recently. He's 69th in the 5k - his better event - but has won both of the outdoor 1500m races he's run in 2023. In two 5,000m races this season he's finished first and third. His 5,000 time puts him 16th entering the weekend.
