NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Sun Devil Lacrosse was once again recognized for an outstanding year in the classroom as the IWLCA announced their 2023 Academic Awards.
Sun Devil Lacrosse was selected as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for the sixth consecutive year. To achieve this distinction, the team had to finish with a combined GPA of 3.2 or higher.
In addition to the team award, nine Sun Devils earned a spot on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
In the five seasons of the program, a total of 42 Sun Devils have earned this distinction. Here are the individuals that accomplished the feat this year:
Katie Brodsky, GR - Family and Human Development
Kaylon Buckner, GR - Digital Audiences
Gigi Gaspar, JR - Finance
Bella Gaspar, JR - Mechanical Engineering
Brynn Holohan, SR - Criminology and Criminal Justice
Grace Lilla, JR - Business (Health Care)
Flynn Murphy, SR - Business (Sports Business)
Mina Scott, JR - Biological Sciences
Anna Winkeler, SR - Biochemistry
Academics has long been a priority for the Arizona State Lacrosse program. Don't expect this academic prowess to change under the direction of head coach Taryn VanThof, who stated in her introductory press conference, "I'm a big proponent of 'student-athletes are more than student-athletes', they're people first. We want to make sure we develop them as people, students, athletes and even as a unit."
After establishing a new high for Honor Roll selections last year, the Maroon & Gold once again delivered in the classroom in 2023. The IWLCA Academic National Honor Roll comes on the heels of the announcement that 20 members of Sun Devil Lacrosse landed on the 2023 Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll. The lacrosse program had the most athletes on an Academic Honor Roll at ASU in the 2022-23 school year.
