PHOENIX – In an unusually humid, cloudy and at times rainy setting at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, a critical series between the UCLA Bruins and Sun Devil Baseball came down to the final pitch as Luke Keaschall's walk-off double led ASU to a 5-4 victory in the series opener.
The game featured four lead changes and three ties before the Sun Devils (30-21, 15-12 Pac-12) finally put the Bruins (26-22-1, 11-15-1 Pac-12) away.
Keaschall proved to be the difference maker to put the Sun Devils back on track, going 3-for-5 with a two-run moonshot that tied the game in the third inning, then sending the Sun Devil faithful home happy with a double down the left-field line. ASU trailed on two separate occasions in the first two innings, before Keaschall blasted a two-run homer in the third to tie the game at three. The Sun Devils took the lead in the seventh on an RBI on the ground from Jacob Tobias, but UCLA tied the game in the ninth with a two-out single to set up Keaschall's heroics.
Along with Keaschall's 3-5 performance, Ryan Campos went 1-for-2 but his offensive presence didn't go unnoticed with managing three walks, only the third time in his career he's had three walks in a game, including an intentional walk in the ninth inning.
Timmy Manning dazzled on the bump, shoving a career-high six innings with six punchouts to a quiet one walk. He allowed six hits, all singles, and three runs. Blake Pivaroff also had a get-right performance after two rough outings, hurling a scoreless frame in the seventh. Owen Stevenson allowed one run over two innings to earn the win.
TURNING POINT
As is customary, the Sun Devils trailed multiple times early in the contest, both 1-0 and 3-1 within the first three innings. Ryan Campos walked with two outs and nobody aboard in the third, setting up a chance for Luke Keaschall to crank a two-run homer - his 17th of the season - and tying the game at three.

- Luke Keaschall smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the third For Sun Devil Baseball, knotting the game at three. It was his 17th of the season. He went 3-5 with three RBIs and a run scored.
- With the homer and the walk-off double, 21 of Keaschall's last 26 hits have gone for extra-bases.
- The homer in the third was a continuation of a stunning trend for Keaschall. He has been elite in making adjustments against starters, batting .452 in the third inning of games, typically when he is receiving his second AB of the game. 16 of his 52 RBI have come in the third inning of games this year with five doubles and five homers. He has a 1.097 slugging percentage in third innings.
- Jonny Weaver smoked a sacrifice fly, that was only held in by the wind, to tie the game at one in the second inning. It was his second RBI of the season and first since the season-opening series sweep of San Diego State, when he drove in the lone run of the game in a 1-0 victory on 2/19.
