THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. – Sun Devil Hockey alum Joey Daccord and the Coachella Valley Firebirds advanced to the second round of the Calder Cup, the American Hockey League's (AHL) playoff tournament.

The Coachella Valley Firebirds are an affiliate of the NHL's Seattle Kraken, who are competing in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Firebirds face the Colorado Eagles in the second round and are split 1-1 in a best of five series that continues on Sunday, April 30, in Coachella Valley. Daccord and company are 2-0-2-0 against the Eagles throughout the regular season, both wins coming to the team when they played at home.

In the first round of playoffs, the Firebirds defeated the Tucson Roadrunners handily, 5-1, in the final game to advance. Daccord played against fellow Sun Devils, Josh Doan and Colin Theisen, who skate for the Roadrunners.

Daccord played between the pipes for the Sun Devils from 2016-19, but never shared the ice with Theisen or Doan. Theisen and Doan dressed in the Maroon and Gold together during the 2021-22 season and both wore the captain's 'C' at one point in their ASU careers.

Throughout the regular season, Joey Daccord played 38 games for the Firebirds. He recorded a 2.38 GAA, .918 save percentage, and three shutouts. Daccord also played in five games for the Seattle Kraken, the FIrebirds NHL affiliate team. Throughout the five games with the Kraken, Daccord notched a 3.14 GAA and .900 save percentage.

In the postseason for the Firebirds, Daccord has played in three games, tallied 98 saves, 2.03 GAA, and a 0.942 save percentage.

The third game versus Colorado starts at 3 p.m. PST and is available to stream for a subscription fee on AHL.tv.
