TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil women's basketball director of operations Carter Caplan is one of 46 full-time professionals from NCAA member institutions selected to participate in next month's NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy.

Scheduled to take place May 10-12 at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis, Ind., the event will provide participants with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and insight into the world of intercollegiate basketball coaching. During the academy, selected participants will be trained in a variety of areas that encourage effective coaching at the intercollegiate level, with a focus on the holistic well-being and development of the student-athlete.

"I am so appreciative and honored to be one of the 46 college basketball professionals selected to participate in the NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy," Caplan said. "My priority is to support our student-athletes and help them develop into the adults and professionals they will become. I do this with the support of our coaches and the ASU Athletic Department. I will use this opportunity to grow professionally and enhance my leadership skills with our program and community and NCAA sports."

Added ASU head women's basketball coach Natasha Adair, "I'm so proud of Carter for being one of 46 full-time professionals selected to the 2023 NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy. Carter will gain a wealth of knowledge as he continues to excel and grow in our profession. I have no doubt that Carter will be able to share his experiences and best practices learned that will be an asset to our program."

Caplan was appointed to his current position by Adair in April 2022. Caplan was a member of Adair's staff at Delaware where he was responsible for assisting and coordinating game scheduling and team practices. He also organized community, on-campus recruiting, and team events.

Caplan's involvement working with women's basketball goes back to his time as an undergraduate at Drexel where he served as head manager from 2016-20. During that same time frame, Caplan gained experience in digital media, athletic development and athletic compliance while participating in Co-op experiences at Penn, Villanova and Temple.

Prior to joining Adair at Delaware, Caplan also served as director of basketball operations at Niagara University.

Caplan earned his undergraduate degree in sports management with a minor in business administration & sports coaching leadership from Drexel in 2020.
