UNION LAKE, Mich. — The legacy for Greg Powers continues to grow after his 15th overall season on the Sun Devil coaching staff and his eighth as head coach of ASU's NCAA Division I Hockey program. The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), the governing body for non-varsity college hockey across the United States, has announced that Powers along with two others have been elected to the ACHA Hall of Fame Class of 2022.

The Hall of Fame inductees were selected from a field of eligible nominees that were reviewed by the ACHA Hall of Fame Committee and then recommended to the ACHA's Board of Directors. Nominations to the Hall of Fame can be made in two categories: Players and Builders. Coach Powers will be enshrined in the Builders Category, recognizing his program building accomplishments.

Powers holds a 272-170-30 career record and a 164-27-9 ACHA record in his career with the Sun Devils. In 2013-14, Powers helped guide the Sun Devils to their first-ever ACHA Men's Division I National Championship. His team ended the 2014-2015 season ranked No. 3 in the ACHA with a 35-4-1 record qualifying for ASU's third-straight ACHA Men's Division I Final Four. In the 2018-19 season he led the Sun Devils to their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid with a 21-13-1 record, and in the following season, the team was ranked as high as No. 9 in the country with a record of 22-11-3 and was en route to a second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid, but prior to the postseason, the coronavirus pandemic caused the year to end abruptly.

Powers was a finalist for the 2019 and 2020 Spencer Penrose Award, which is awarded to the Division I Coach of the Year. He was named the 2018-19 Frank Kush Sun Devil Coach of the Year, which is voted on by the other 25 head coaches at Arizona State.

A former student-athlete as a Sun Devil, Powers graduated from Arizona State in 1999 and was inducted into the ASU ACHA Hockey Player Hall of Fame in 2009.

In his collegiate career, Powers was a three-time ACHA Division I All-American Goaltender while playing for Arizona State. The Sun Devils qualified for three national championships during Powers' four-season collegiate career, and he was named Team MVP for the 1996-1997 and 1997-1998 seasons.

On July 7, 2022, Arizona State University and Greg Powers agreed to a five-year contract extension through the 2026-27 season.
