SAN FRANCISCO - Sun Devil Baseball's Luke Keaschall has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the first time, according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
Keaschall's honor comes after Arizona State opened its league calendar by taking two of three games away from home against the Utah Utes. In the series against the Utes, he went 9-13 (.625) with two home runs, two stolen bases, five extra base hits, six runs scored and eight RBI. Keaschall also went 1-3 with a walk, home run and two runs scored against Utah Tech during the week.
His .692 batting average in league play is best in the conference and he has the third most RBI despite the Sun Devils having played in less games than the teams ahead of him.
Keaschall is tied for the league lead in doubles in conference play games and one homer shy of the league lead. In fact, ASU is hitting .356 as a squad in Pac-12 play along with a .431 OBP, both tops in the league. In the field, Keaschall started four games at second base during the week, recording no errors and marking a team-best 15 assists.
Overall this season, Keaschall is hitting .342 in 20 games for the Sun Devils. His five total home runs are tied for the third-most in the league. He is also one of only 15 players in the conference with at least 18 RBI.
The award marks the fourth Sun Devil Pac-12 Player of the Week under head coach Willie Bloomquist and ASU's first of the season. It is the first weekly award of Keaschall's collegiate career.
Sun Devil Baseball resumes action Wednesday night in a midweek contest against Grand Canyon at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Arizona State will host Arizona in a Territorial Cup battle this weekend for three games, with first pitch on Friday set for 7:00 p.m. MST. ASU Football Head Coach Kenny Dillingham will throw out the first pitch.
