TEMPE, Ariz. – A storybook collegiate career comes to a close as Sun Devil Hockey sophomore captain Josh Doan signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes beginning with the 2023-24 NHL season, announced on Thursday.
Doan will report to the Coyotes' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners and will play his first professional game on Friday, March 17 against the Calgary Wranglers at the Tucson Convention Center Arena.
Doan joins ten Sun Devils for Life who have competed in the AHL, and after appearing in his first NHL game, will be one of three ASU players to compete in the Big Show. He follows ASU alumni Joey Daccord (G, Seattle/Ottawa) and Brinson Pasichnuk (D, San Jose). Doan will be the first Sun Devil forward to ever play in the NHL.
Doan finished his collegiate career with 28 goals, 47 assists, and 75 points in 74 games. In just two seasons, the Scottsdale native etched himself into ASU's all-time career and single season record books.
In the all-time career records, his 75 points and 47 assists both rank fifth, his 28 goals and 10 power play goals both rank fourth.
In the single season rankings, Doan finished in the top 10 in goals, assists and points after both his freshman and sophomore seasons. His 131 shots during his sophomore campaign ranks third in ASU's single season shots.
DOAN'S MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS
Doan never missed a game in his two years with ASU and won the team's Rookie of the Year award, voted on by players, staff, and coaches of Sun Devil Hockey. After a hot freshman year, Doan was elected as the captain of the 28-man roster heading into the 2022-23 season.
