PHOENIX -- Sun Devil Baseball fell into a 5-0 hole through two innings and were one-hit through five in a 7-2 loss to UC Irvine in the series finale on Sunday.
Jacob Tobias homered and added a late RBI for the Sun Devils and Ryan Campos added two hits in what was an otherwise quite day at the plate for ASU.
Jonah Giblin pitched admirably in relief after having to enter the game with just one out and the bases loaded in the first inning. Giblin tossed 4.2 innings and allowed two runs with four strikeouts to help save the Sun Devil bullpen ahead of two scheduled midweek tilts this week.
Brock Peery, Blake Pivaroff and Dylan Gardner combined for 3.0 innings of scorless relief and the Sun Devil defense turned three double plays for the second consecutive game but ASU could not close the gap on the offensive end.
ASU turns its sights toward two-midweek tilts at Oklahoma State on Tuesday and Wednesday with games scheduled for 5 p.m. AZT and 11 a.m. AZT (6 and 12 locally). The games will be available through the Big 12 Now app on ESPN+ and streamed over the airwaves in the Valley on KAZG 1440 AM. There is forecasted weather in the Stillwater area for potentially both games, so fans are encouraged to follow @ASU_Baseball on Twitter for any schedule updates.
