HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Sun Devil Women's Golf got off to a strong start at the 2023 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, hosted by Long Cove Club.
No. 12 Arizona State sits in sixth place after day one of the prestigious event featuring one of the top fields of the Spring season. Three Sun Devils are in the Top-25 after 18 holes of play, with the Sun Devils showing flashes of the play that allowed them to finish third at this event last season.
Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team proved they belonged at this extremely competitive event, sitting in the top-third after the first round. Freshman Beth Coulter was not afraid of the big stage, leading the way individually for the Sun Devils. She sits in the Top-10 after day one, tied for ninth and firmly in contention for the individual title after opening with a 71 (E). Sophomore Grace Summerhays is not far behind in a tie for 12th after shooting a 72 (+1), while freshman Paula Schulz-Hanssen trails the overall leader by only six strokes in a tie for 23rd with little separation in the field so far.
Fans were able to tune-in and watch the end of the team's round today on GOLF Channel, with live coverage provided throughout the afternoon. On Tuesday, Arizona State starts their round later in the day and will be in one of the featured groups highlighted as part of the GOLF Channel broadcast.
