SAN FRANCISCO - Ryan Campos, Ethan Long and Jacob Tobias were named to the Preseason All-Pac-12 Baseball Team and Sun Devil Baseball was picked to finish sixth, according to an announcement from the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Campos (NCBWA) and Tobias (Collegiate Baseball) were the 35th and 36th Freshman All-Americans in program history following their historic 2022 campaigns.
Campos led the Sun Devils with a .357 average on the year – the sixth best freshman average in program history and just ahead of head coach Willie Bloomquist's .356 average. Additionally, he was one of just 19 freshmen to crack the Top-250 in the NCAA in average including being the only freshman Power Five catcher to do so.
He also had 20 multi-hit games this year – good for third on the team despite starting 13-15 fewer games than the majority of the other starters on the team.
Tobias enters his sophomore campaign after belting seven home runs in 2022, the eighth most for a freshman in ASU baseball history. In fact, His 23 RBIs in Pac-12 games were the second-most on the team, 20th in the league and third among Pac-12 freshmen.
Ethan Long will start his third season in the valley as one of ASU's offensive leaders. In a 19-game stretch during his freshman season, Long smacked .444 with 40 RBI, 15 home runs, eight doubles, a 1.181 slugging percentage, a .500 OBP and an absurd 1.681 OPS. Of his 32 hits in that span, 23 were for extra bases. Long battled injuries throughout his sophomore season but was coming on strong offensively before a hand injury sidelined the last month of the year. Despite that, four of his seven homers during the 2022 season came in the sixth inning or later.
The sixth place mark is one higher than in 2022, an improvement for Head Coach Willie Bloomquist entering his second season at the helm of the Sun Devils.
Sun Devil Baseball's slate consists of 56 games and is made up of 25 non-conference matchups and 31 contests in league play culminating in the Pac-12 Tournament in Scottsdale to open the postseason.
ASU will travel to hostile environments at Mississippi State and Oklahoma State for five of their 25 non-conference matchups.
Arizona State hosts Arizona, Washington State, Oregon State, and UCLA in conference series this season. It will face Utah, California, Washington, Oregon and Southern California on the road.
Sun Devil Baseball opens its season from Phoenix Municipal Stadium on Feb. 17 at 6:00 p.m. against the San Diego Aztecs.
