TEMPE, Ariz. – After a brief two-match road trip, the No. 23 Sun Devil Women's Tennis team will return to the Whiteman Tennis Center for a top-25 showdown against No. 17 San Diego (Saturday, February 4, 12 p.m. MST).

Live results and a live stream are available for fans to keep up with the action.

The Sun Devils, 6-1 for the first time to begin the season since 2020, are a perfect 5-0 at Whiteman this spring.

SUN DEVIL NOTABLES

  • The Sun Devils are listed at No. 23 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Top 25 rankings, marking the fourth consecutive week they've held a national ranking.
  • The Sun Devils are recently removed from competing at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Alabama in a field comprised of No. 15 Auburn, No. 23 UCF and UCSB. The Sun Devils were bested by the No. 23 Knights in the opening round, 4-2, before defeating the Gauchos, 5-0, the following afternoon.
  • Giulia Morlet and Sedona Gallagher have been rock-solid for the Sun Devils on doubles Court 2 this spring, as they're a team-high 5-0 to begin the season. Pair that with the Court 1 tandem of Domenika Turkovic and Patricija Spaka, the country's No. 9 ranked pair, and the Sun Devils are a force to be reckoned with in doubles.
  • Freshman Chelsea Fontenel has quickly burst onto the scene and has settled into singles Court 3. She's tied with Marianna Argyrokastriti for most wins so far this season (6).
  • Four Sun Devils have earned individual national rankings in the ITA's preseason polls –  Giulia Morlet (No. 69), Domenika Turkovic (No. 74), Marianna Argyrokastriti (No. 84) and Sedona Gallagher (No. 95).

The Sun Devils were slated to host SMU on Friday, February 3 (11 a.m. MST), but weather conditions in the Dallas area prevented the Mustangs from traveling to Tempe.

PREVIEWING SAN DIEGO (2-1)

  • The Toreros are fresh off a red-hot showing at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in which they upset No. 25 Georgia Tech (4-1) and No. 11 Cal (4-1) on consecutive days, effectively punching their ticket to the ITA Indoor National Championships.
  • Three Toreros are ranked inside the ITA Top 125 individual rankings – No. 29 Solymar Colling, No. 41 Kailey Evans and No. 88 Andjela Skrobonja. Additionally, two USD doubles teams are nationally-ranked – t-53 Kailey Evans/Elizabeth Goldsmith and No. 59 Dariya Detkovskaya / Andjela Skrobonja.
  • The Sun Devils are perfect against the Toreros in their last seven tries, two of which came last season. Their second and final meeting last spring came in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, a contest in which the Sun Devils won, 4-1.
  • The Toreros are led by Sun Devil alum Nadia Abdala (2010), who's in her first season at the helm of the USD program. She was an assistant coach on the San Diego staff for eight seasons and was a three-time Southwest Region's Assistant Coach of the Year by the ITA (2015-16, 2018-19 & 2020-21).
