TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Swimming Head Coach Bob Bowman has been named the head coach of the U.S. Men's team for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships (formerly FINA), USA Swimming has announced.

Bowman will lead the U.S. Men in the long-course meters competition that is set to take place July 23-30 in Fukuoka, Japan. Carol Capitani has been tabbed to lead the U.S. Women.

"Coach Capitani and Coach Bowman are proven leaders and teachers in our sport," USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Lindsay Mintenko said. "We're grateful for their commitment to USA Swimming and for their contributions to the members of our National Teams."

Bowman has previously been the U.S. men's head coach at the 2007, 2009 and 2013 FINA World Championships. He also served on the U.S. staff for the previous five Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020), in which he was the head coach in Rio.

Now in his eighth-year as the Sun Devils' head coach, Bowman has ushered the ASU program into the national spotlight. Earlier this season, the Sun Devil Men earned the No. 1 ranking in the country for the first time in program history. They placed sixth at the NCAA Championships a season ago for their highest finish in 40 years.

Last week, Bowman's Sun Devils knocked off No. 2/11 Cal in front of a lively home crowd in which Léon Marchand set a new NCAA record in the 400 IM. Just one day before, the top-ranked Sun Devil Men knocked off No. 12 Stanford, marking the first time in Bowman's tenure they've beaten both Stanford and Cal in the same season.

Marchand became ASU's first national champion in the Bowman era last year when he won the 200 breast and 200 IM in his freshman year. Twelve swimmers across both Men's and Women's teams have won Pac-12 Championship titles, including five from last season alone.

Bowman and the Sun Devils are in action next for their regular season finale on Saturday, February 4, (1 p.m. MST) when the team hosts in-state rival Arizona for Senior Day at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
