TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State Women's Tennis team notched its fifth straight sweep to improve to 5-0 for the first time since 2020 with a 7-0 victory over the LMU Lions Saturday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
Arizona State (5-0) has five straight sweeps for the first time since at least the 2005-06 campaign. The Sun Devils secured two wins without dropping a match in doubles play before rattling off six singles victories.
"I thought our doubles play was the best it's been all season," associate head coach Matt Langley said. "We watched some film as a team yesterday and I think it really helped with court positioning and where we put the ball."
ASU earned the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 & 3 by Sedona Gallagher/Giulia Morlet and Marianna Argyrokastriti/Chelsea Fontenel, respectively, both by a score of 6-1.
Singles started strong for the Sun Devils as Patricija Spaka took the first set, 6-0, at No. 6 Singles and Giulia Morlet did the same, 6-1, at No. 1 Singles. Marianna Argyrokastriti also took her first set, 6-3, at No. 4 Singles.
LMU (0-2) responded by taking the first set at No. 2 Singles before the Sun Devils took a 2-0 match lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 Singles by Spaka.
ASU returns to action next week for their first road trip of the spring as the Sun Devils take on UCF on Saturday, January 28, at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Auburn, Alabama. They'll see either Auburn or UCSB on Sunday, January 29.
