TEMPE – The Arizona State ice hockey team (11-14-0) was unable to split the series against the No. 17 Minnesota State Mavericks (14-9-1) due to a 5-0 loss on Saturday night in front of a soldout crowd at Mullett Arena. It's the first time that the Sun Devils have been swept at home in the Mullett Era.

ASU lost the shot battle 31–26 and weren't able to capitalize on its three power play chances for the second consecutive game. Four MSU goals were scored on the even strength and the fifth and final goal was scored on the Maverick power play.

MSU came out swinging, scoring the first goal of the game just 70 seconds into play. From there, the Mavericks continued the onslaught with three goals in the second period. The first goal of the middle frame was just 25 seconds after puck drop and their third of the period - and fourth of the game - was secured with 37 seconds left in the second frame. The Mavericks nailed a power play goal near the 11 minute mark of the third period to complete the 5-0 sweep of the Sun Devils.

Jacob Semik and Demetrios Koumontzis each made three blocks to tamper the shots heading toward netminder TJ Semptimphelter. ASU's starting tendie made 26 saves in his 25th consecutive start of the 2022-23 season.
