TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Gymnastics is bringing in former Eastern Michigan stand-out Lacey Rubin as the new assistant coach to round out the staff alongside co-head coaches Jay and Jess Santos.
"We are thrilled to have Lacey join our Sun Devil family!" Jess Santos said. "Lacey has spent the past few years gaining valuable experience at both the club and college level, coaching all four events, and we feel that she will be able to step right in and make an immediate impact on our program. Jay and I had the privilege of coaching Lacey for a few years and she is familiar with how we operate. Lacey has a great competitive drive and a huge passion for coaching - she will bring a lot of positivity which I think will be a great compliment to what we have going on here!"
Rubin comes to Tempe after a season as the volunteer assistant coach at Penn State for the 2022 campaign, helping four individuals qualify for regionals. Her experience working with head coach Sarah Brown prepared her for this next step to assistant coach.
"Lacey is going to be an amazing asset to the Arizona State program," Brown said. "During her time at Penn State she was essential to our day-to-day operations and she has such a bright future ahead of her. I'm excited to watch her grow and learn from Jay and Jess and I know she will fit right into the Sun Devil family!"
Additionally, she has experience coaching at the club level, both at Centre Elite Gymnastics in Pennsylvania and New Image Gymnastics in New York.
She rejoins former coaches Jay and Jess, who coached her for a season while she competed at Eastern Michigan. She was a student-athlete from 2014-2018, where she was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team twice. In 2017 and 2018, she was the MAC bar champion. She also helped the team to a MAC championship in 2016 and 2017. In the classroom, she was a distinguished scholar-athlete in 2017 and 2018. Following her time as a student-athlete, she was a volunteer assistant for Eastern Michigan for the 2019 season.
"I am beyond grateful to Jay and Jess for this opportunity and for believing in me to continue to bring a level of success and sportsmanship to an already highly successful team of dedicated students and talented athletes," Rubin said. "It's an honor to get to work beside some of the most influential coaches and staff in the nation. I'm so excited for my future with this team and university!"
Rubin received both a bachelor's and master's degree from EMU in social work.
