TEMPE - The Sun Angel Classic is back again! Arizona State track and field is set to host the third home meet of the season Thursday-Saturday at Sun Angel Stadium. Admission is free, but there is no live stream available. Live results and full meet schedule are available here. Thursday kicks off with the heptathlon at noon. Friday field events start at 9:30 a.m., then running events at 5:30 p.m. Saturday field events start at 10:30 a.m., with running events at 5:30 p.m. Katie Eidem, who holds the No. 5 spot on ASU's all-time hept list (5,341 points), kicks off the weekend for the Sun Devils.
ASU has been firing on all pistons this season. The men currently rank 11th in the country, marking the third-consecutive USTFCCCA ranking release under head coach Dion Miller that they've been in the top-15. The men floated around 20s throughout the 2021 season. Both the men and women are coming off ninth-place finishes at the 2021 NCAA Championships.
Program standouts Turner Washington and Jorinde van Klinken both open their outdoor seasons this weekend with the discus on Friday. Both are the defending national champions in the discipline, and both are coming off gold-medal shot put performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships. #ThrowsU has been on fire so far this season. Freshman Ralford Mullings ranks second in the NCAA in the discus, while Ian Schultz is 24th in the shot put. Beatrice Llano and Shelby Moran rank seventh and ninth in the hammer, respectively.
On the track Jamar Marshall Jr. is seventh in the 110H and ASU's men's 4x400 of Jalen Drayden, Dubem Nwachukwu, Garrett Shedrick and Justin Robinson are sixth. Robinson is fifth in the 400m too. Distance runner Lena Lebrun is 14th in the 3000m steeplechase
