TEMPE - Murphy Cassone continues to prove himself as a key player in Arizona State men's tennis' lineup. The freshman battled to a three-set tiebreaker victory at No. 1 to clinch ASU's 4-2 victory over visiting California and set the Sun Devils up to sweep the weekend. ASU is back at the Whiteman Tennis Center Sunday at 1:00 p.m. to host Stanford.

How it happened
ASU kicked things off by winning the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 1 and No. 3 from Fabien Salle/Max McKennon and Christian Lerby/George Stoupe. The win at court one snapped a three match losing skid for the duo, while Stoupe and Lerby picked up this first win together this season.

ASU and Cal battled start-to-finish in singles. The Bears briefly tied the match at 1-1 with a straight-set win at No. 5, but Jacob Bulard's 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 put the Sun Devils ahead 2-1. An ASU loss at No. 3 made it 2-2, but the Sun Devils closed it out with Salle's win at No. 2 and Cassone's clinch on the top court.
