PHOENIX - Sun Devil Baseball infielder Luke Keaschall has been named a Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball News, as announced by the outlet on Monday.
Keaschall, who was selected to the third team, is one of six Pac-12 student athletes named and Arizona State is one of just four schools from the conference with a player selected. In fact, Keaschall is one of just three infielders in the league to make the list.
Last season, Collegiate Baseball News recognized infielder Nate Baez as a third team honoree while outfielder Joe Lampe was named a third team All-American by Perfect Game. The duo were the 130th and 131st All-Americans in Sun Devil program history.
Keaschall joins the Sun Devil baseball team after two outstanding years as the offensive catalyst for the University of San Francisco. He smacked .312 with 12 home runs and 64 RBI during his time as a Don and took home the West Coast Conference's Freshman of the Year award in 2021. He hit .320 with four homers, four triples and 30 RBI in his freshman campaign. The Dons were also at the top of the conference in stolen bases in 2022 and Keaschall paced the effort by swiping 30 bags.
Keaschall spent his summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Facing off against the top prospects in all of college baseball, he was named an All-Star. In 20 games with the Orleans Firebirds prior to his selection, Keaschall hit .312 with one triple, two home runs, four doubles, 10 runs scored and 15 RBI. He finished his time on Cape with a .320 batting average and Orleans made the playoffs in the East Division.
The Wattsonville, Calif. native was a multi-sport letter winner at Aptos High School, earning all-league accolades in both baseball and wrestling. He was a two-time captain of the Mariners' baseball team where he was a two-time all-Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League honoree.
Sun Devil Baseball gets its 2023 season underway with a home series against San Diego State from Feb. 17-19 as a part of college baseball's opening weekend. ASU's schedule features 56 games, made up of 25 non-conference matchups and 31 contests in league play culminating in the Pac-12 Tournament in Scottsdale to open the postseason.
