Abu Dhabi, UAE – Liberty Ricca and Faith Dasso of the Sun Devil Triathlon team are abroad over the holiday week as they are set to compete in the U23 Elite race at the 2022 World Triathlon Championships in Abu Dhabi.
The pair will be representing Team USA this Friday, November 25, at 7:30 a.m. local time, Thursday, November 24, at 8:30 p.m. Arizona time (MST). An Olympic distance event, the race is double the distance of the collegiate circuit. It will begin with a 1.5km swim race, then a 40km bike trek and a 10km run to finish it off.
"It's been a mission of Sun Devil Triathlon since the program's start to develop young women to excel in the classroom and in our sport of triathlon in the collegiate, national and international levels," head coach Cliff English said. "We are thrilled to have two from our team compete on the world stage in the U23 World Championships in Abu Dhabi. We are wishing the best of luck to these Sun Devils who have made their name known in triathlon!"
The Championship Finals is the crown jewel of World Triathlon's annual calendar as the multi-day triathlon festival is expected to welcome thousands of local, regional and international triathletes to the UAE's capital city.
This past month the Sun Devils ended the 2022 season hoisting up their sixth national championship trophy. Ricca, the senior captain, finished second in the 2022 NCAA collegiate championships and recently won the U.S. U23 National title. Dasso, a poised freshman, has been successful around the globe as she has had top podium finishes in Europe and Canada at Junior elite cups and placed second last month at the 2022 Americas Triathlon Championship in Uruguay for Team USA.
