ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.  – The Sun Devil women's basketball team fought back from a five-point deficit with 2:37 left in the fourth quarter to force overtime where it outscored New Mexico 10-4 in the extra frame to come away with an 83-77 win on Sunday.

The Sun Devils (4-0) opened the game hot, scoring 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field. Ten of Tyi Skinner's game-high 24 points – the junior guard's second consecutive 24-point outing, one point short time tying her career high – came in the opening quarter.

The Sun Devils combined to go 5-for-25 from the floor in the second and third quarters, but managed to keep the game close throughout with clutch baskets and timely free throws.

"Down the stretch we got the stops, we got the rebounds and we made the free throws to beat a very good New Mexico team," said ASU head coach Natasha Adair.

The Sun Devils fought back, scoring eight points in the final two minutes in regulation, two of which came on a Skinner layup to send the game to overtime. They outscored the Lobos 6-0 in the final 2:43 of overtime to secure the victory. When combining the two runs at the end of regulation and overtime, the Sun Devils outscored the Lobos 15-4

"It came down to grit and toughness," said Adair. "We talked about who we want to be. We want it to be relentless. We want to take pride in our defense and rebounding and we had a battle tonight on the boards."

ASU was plus-19 on the boards (53-34), including a 19-8 advantage on the offensive glass that resulted in ASU outscoring New Mexico 19-5 in second chance points.

The Sun Devils finished an incredible 22-of-26 (84.6%) from the free throw line. It's the first time they've had 20-or-more free throw makes in consecutive games since Nov. 25, 2017 & Dec. 2, 2018 vs. Columbia & Buffalo respectively.

Skinner led the way with a game-high 24 points, a point away from her career-high for the second-straight game. Jaddan Simmons scored 16 points while Kayla Mokwuah scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. It was Mokwuah's second career double-double and first since Feb. 20, 2019. Treasure Hunt added 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.

In addition to Hunt's career-high in rebounds, two other Sun Devils reached career milestones. Mokwuah's eight offensive rebounds were a career-high, surpassing her previous best (5). Sydney Erikstrup grabbed six rebounds, surpassing her previous career-high of four last season.

Isadora Sousa played a season-high 19 minutes in the second half and was critical in helping the Sun Devils on the defensive end.

Sunday's game at New Mexico was the second of five consecutive games away from home for the Sun Devils. They continue their road trip at the Goombay Splash Tournament in Bimini, Bahamas on Friday, Nov. 25 at 2:15 pm MST. The Sun Devils will face either Notre Dame or American University.
