Football Falls in Nail-biter at StanfordFootball Falls in Nail-biter at Stanford
STANFORD, Calif. - Sun Devil Football jumped out to a 14-6 lead at halftime and did not allow a touchdown, but were unable to secure a victory on the road.

Arizona State (2-5; 1-3) was clicking on both sides of the ball in the first half, riding an effective offensive and aggressive defensive effort to an eight-point lead at the break. Stanford rode kicker Joshua Karty in a second half comeback, as he scored all 15 points by tying a school record with five field goals. Stanford outscored the Sun Devils 9-0 in the second half. Despite 355 yards of offense and bend-but-don't break defense, the Sun Devils fell one point short in a dramatic affair.

Elijhah Badger was a bright spot on offense, as he was on the same page with Emory Jones all afternoon. He finished with 118 yards and a touchdown on six catches, his first career 100+ yard game. It appeared he made the biggest play of the game on an acrobatic catch inside the two-yard line with three seconds, but it was overturned after a video replay review.

The defense was up to the task against a physical Stanford offense, preventing the Cardinal from reaching the end zone. A season-high four sacks and eight pass breakups helped Arizona State maintain a lead a majority of the game.

In his return, Emory Jones operated a balanced attack, throwing for 227 yards and adding 27 on the ground. ASU had over 120 rushing yards as a time against a tough Stanford front.

FIRST QUARTER
Stanford forced a three-and-out on ASU's first possession and then drove 44 yards on nine plays as Joshua Karty hit a 44-yard field goal to give the Cardinal a 3-0 lead five minutes into the game.

The Sun Devils went 75 yards efficiently on six plays in just over three minutes to make it 7-3 with 6:47 left in the first quarter. ASU faced a third-and-13 two plays into the drive but Emory Jones found Elijah Badger for 14 yards. X Valladay ran 15 yards for the score on first down. Badger had catches for 14 and 30 yards and drew a pass interference call.

Stanford went 57 yards on 11 plays in 4:52 to make it 7-6 at the 1:55 mark.

SECOND QUARTER
ASU made it 14-6 a minute into the second quarter on a beautiful 39-yard pass from Jones to Badger on a seven-play, 75-yard drive that covered 2:54.

THIRD QUARTER
ASU forced a Stanford punt after the second-half kickoff, Stanford did the same and then kicked a 44-yard field goal to make it 14-9 at the 6:08 mark.

FOURTH QUARTER
Stanford made its fourth field goal seconds into the fourth quarter to cut the ASU lead to 14-12 after a nine-play, 67-yard drive..
