TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 9 Sun Devil Water Polo continues their homestand at Mona Plummer with two games against the No. 17 ranked LMU Lions. The two teams will play Saturday, January 29 at 10:30 am MST and Sunday, January 30 at 9:00 am MST. Both games will be steamed via ASU Live Stream.
ASU comes off of a top-10 weekend tournament where Cal, Fresno State, Michigan, and UCI were all in town. The Sun Devils did not come away with a win to open the weekend, but had an impressive showing from the many newcomers.
Of those newcomers, Freshman attacker Vanda Baksa notched 16 points off of nine goals and seven assists. Devensively Baksa shined with four field blocks and four steals to cap off her opening weekend. Two other freshmen in Bianca Becerra and Stevilyn Griffin also netted their first career goals last weekend.
Grad transfer Emily Bennett put on a show in the maroon and gold with five goals and two assists for seven points on the weekend.
This weekend's games serve as LMU's season opener and despite not playing last weekend, they checked in at No. 17 in the CWPA polls. In 2021, they played just eight games and finished 3-5 on the season and posted an 0-4 record on the road. Mona Plummer is serving as a neutral site for the Lions as they will face OUAZ after concluding play each day against the Sun Devils.
ASU has faced LMU seven times all-time and posts a 5-2 record against the Lions, after winning the last five games. The two teams have not played at Mona Plummer since 2018 in the Sun Devils' 11-3 victory.
