Three Trophies Raised Day 2 of NCAA ChampionshipsThree Trophies Raised Day 2 of NCAA Championships
EUGENE, Oregon - Sun Devil Track and Field's throwing core raised more trophies and put three on the podium on day two of the NCAA Championships. Jorinde van Klinken took silver in the shot put, while Beatrice Llano earned bronze in the hammer and Shelby Moran took fifth in the hammer. Llano hit a personal record for the first time in three years, and Moran PR'd an jump up to third in the all-time program record books with her result. That's four total trophies so far for ASU at the Championships following Turner Washington's silver medal finish in the shot put on day one.

Day three of the NCAA Championships flips back to the men where Jeremy Cody finally gets going in the high jump, Ralford Mullings and Turner Washington compete in the discus, Dayton Carlson runs in the 800m finals, and Vincent Mauri runs in the 5K.

Van Klinken's 18.58m/60-11½ wasn't the mark she was hoping for, but it was over a foot further than Axelina Johansson's and good enough for a silver medal. Van Klinken hit 60 feet three times in the competition, and her best mark was in the fourth round. Ohio State's Adelaide Aquilla won the meet with a collegiate record 19.64m/64-5.25 opening throw. This was a huge outdoor improvement for Van Klinken who finished 12th at last year's outdoor championships and it's her fourth NCAA trophy.

Beatrice Llano has been chasing 70m in the hammer for three years and finally hit the mark again when it mattered most. Four throws into the meet and she was sitting in eighth with a best of 68.49m. She stepped into the ring and put her all into a fifth effort (72.10m/236-6) that sailed two feet past her previous lifetime best and pushed her up into bronze medal position. She followed that with another 70m throw to end the day. Llano hasn't passed 70m since 2019 where she threw 71.43m/234-4 at the ASU Invitational. She remains second in ASU history with the improvement.

Moran has been silent grinding all season. She has churned out numerous 65m and 66m marks this season, but her fifth-round throw of 70.58m/231-7 was just the second time she'd even hit 68m in college. The throw moved her to third in program history.

ASU ended the day with freshman Adriana Tatum running 23.33 in the 200m. She won't advance to finals, but the freshman has a lot to celebrate and look back on after a phenomenal first year in Maroon and Gold.
