TEMPE, Ariz. – We're dancing!
The Sun Devils have qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 34th consecutive season under head coach Sheila McInerney and will open play against San Diego on Friday, May 6, in Norman, Oklahoma.
Should they advance, the Sun Devils will play the winner of Bryant versus Oklahoma.
It's a familiar face for the Sun Devils in the opening round, as they'll square off against a San Diego team they met in late February in Tempe. The Sun Devils edged the Toreros, 4-2, on February 26, backed by wins by Giulia Morlet, Domenika Turkovic and Patricija Spaka.
Ranked a season-best No. 17 in the latest ITA team polls, the Sun Devils' first round opponent is currently listed at No. 45.
The Sun Devils are fresh off a deep run in the Pac-12 Championship tournament, advancing to their first finals appearance since the tournament's inception in 2017. On back-to-back days in Ojai, California, the Sun Devils toppled USC then top-ranked Cal before falling to Stanford in the final.
McInerney has now guided the Sun Devils to the postseason every year since 1987 (excluding 2020, which was cut short due to COVID-19).
