LOS ANGELES – Sun Devil Baseball ran into a buzzsaw on Friday, dropping its series opening game against UCLA, 19-2.
Joe Lampe extended his hitting streak to 12 straight games with his ninth-inning RBI double. Sean McLain recorded a hit and assumed control of first place in the Pac-12 in hit-by-pitches with two on the night.
Will Rogers made his collegiate pitching debit with the game out of reach in the seventh inning and recorded a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. Ethan Long added a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth.
The game came undone in the sixth inning when ASU simply could not get out of the inning, allowing 13 runs – only two of which were earned as the Sun Devils had three errors.
ASU returns to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. AZT with Kyle Luckham toeing the rubber for the Devils.
