Throws Show Out on Final Day of Twilight InvitationalThrows Show Out on Final Day of Twilight Invitational
TEMPE - Arizona State track and field closed out the ASU Twilight Invitational Saturday celebrating a total of 14 weekend victories. #ThrowsU was the talk of the day, with senior Connery McLaughlin throwing the ninth-best javelin mark in program history after three years of not competing and second-year Mya Lesnar jumping to eighth all-time in the shot put. ASU will send a select few to next weekend's Desert Heat Classic hosted by Arizona before the Pac-12 Championships kick off in Eugene, Oregon.

Final results

"I think we had a really good meet individually," head coach Dion Miller said. "We didn't win a lot of races on the track but that was because we rested a lot of the team, so by design we were surprised and excited by a lot of our athletes we didn't necessarily expect to move up on their respective lists, and that's all coming on at the right time. The biggest thing we have to focus on now at the end of the year is going into the Desert Heat Classic and knocking out the kinks ahead of the Pac-12 Championships."

ASU's 4x100 relay squads kicked off the day, with the women's A squad of Cortney Jones, Adriana Tatum, Taryn Hankins, and Ta'nalya Gordon winning in 45.63 and the men's squad of Jalen Drayden, Justin Robinson, Austin Kratz, and Garrett Shedrick winning in 39.56

McLaughlin then had a senior day to remember when he went 67.31m/220' 10" to jump into ninth on the program's all-time javelin list. Keira Christie-Galloway and Cortney Jones went 1-2 in the women's 100H finals where Christie-Galloway finished in 13.38 and Jones finished in 13.41. Lesnar highlighted the final throwing event of the weekend with her 17.01m/55' 9¾" heave in the shot to take the eighth all-time spot at ASU.
