TEMPE - It might be the "offseason," but triathlon really never stops training throughout the year. The spring is time to qualify for elite licenses, practice new strategies and solidify yourself for the upcoming fall season as the Arizona State Triathlon team will prepare themselves as they look to win their sixth National Title this November.
 
The Sun Devils have continued their training, but they have been abroad to experience different climates as the heat starts to rise in Tempe.

Here is the low down of spring -
 
Tritonman Draft Legal (Elite Development Race) - February 12 - San Diego, Calif.
 
Camille Buchanan and Evan Welch participated in the Tritonman Draft Legal held in San Diego by UC San Diego. Buchanan finished in second place with a time of 1:05.17, which was just 13 seconds out of first place. Welch finished in sixth with a time of 1:07.17 with both Sun Devils leading the 20-24 division. Buchanan was the second fastest to finish the 5k run, finishing with a time of 19:02. Buchanan's finish qualified her for her USA Triathlon Elite license.
 
Camille Buchanan– 1:05.17 (second place, 1st in 20-24 division)
Evan Welch– 1:07.17 (Sixth Place, 2nd in 20-24 division)
 
Clermont Draft Legal Challenge - March 5 - Clermont, Fl.
 
Welch continued her training at the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge in Florida, where she placed seventh with a time of 1:06:45.8 in the draft legal race. Welch ran the seventh fastest 5k with a time of 21:16.6. 
 
Evan Welch– 1:06:45.8 (seventh place) 
 
Sarasota Continental Cup North American Sprint Championship - March 12 - Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fl.
 
Sun Devil Triathletes Alexe Coursol and Liberty Ricca competed in the Elite Women's race in Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida where the race was shortened due to weather conditions. Ricca placed 15th with a time of 34:52, and Coursol came in 20-seconds later with a time of 35:12. Ricca swam the sixth fastest time with a 5:16 to begin the race.

Liberty Ricca– 34:52 (15th)
Amber Schlebusch– (DNS) 
 
UPCOMING RACE
Salinas Continental Cup - April 24 - Salinas, Ecuador
 
The Sun Devils will travel a squad below the equator to Ecuador for the Salinas Continental Cup. Camille Buchanan, Alexe Coursol, Liberty Ricca, Kyla Roy, Amber Schlebusch, Kira Stanley and Evan Welch are the anticipated racers for the event.
