HILTON HEAD, SC - Sun Devil Women's Golf completed the first of 18 holes of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon at Long Cove Club.

Arizona State performed well in the opening round of the ground-breaking women's collegiate event, the first regular season tournament broadcasted live on GOLF Channel. Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team finished the day sixth out of 17 teams, all of which came into the week ranked in the Top-50. They are only five strokes back of No. 21 Baylor for the top spot in a crowded leaderboard.

"At the end of the day, we hung in there and played our back side very well," Coach Farr-Kaye remarked. "This is a great golf course that rewards great shots! There are lots of golf shots left to be played for sure."

Alexandra Forsterling and Calynne Rosholt have shined on the national stage, both putting together strong opening rounds. The duo is tied for second in the 90-golfer field after finishing with a 70 (-1), sitting just one stroke back of the lead.

"Lexi and Calynne both played a beautiful round of golf in tough weather conditions," Coach Farr-Kaye added. "We will be ready to work our way up the leaderboard tomorrow!"

For Forsterling, consistency was the theme for her first round, as she avoided a bogey until the final hole. Her 15 pars are the second-most of any golfer, managing the course extremely well and limiting mistakes. Rosholt has been equally as effective, overcoming a rocky start to finish near the top of the leaderboard. After bogeying her first two holes, Rosholt finished three-under over the next 16 holes, including birdies on two of her final four holes.

Rosholt has been one of the best in the tournament on par five opportunities, boasting the second-best scoring average. Forsterling has done her best work on par four opportunities, but is also in the Top-10 on par five chances. The two are a big reason why Arizona State's 62 pars are the second-most of any team, despite tricky conditions on day one.

The Sun Devils currently find themselves ahead of several highly-ranked teams, as the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate features an elite field. By sitting in sixth place, ASU is on top of No. 4 South Carolina, No. 10 Arkansas, No. 18 Auburn, and No. 22 Duke. A big reason why was the finish of Ashley Menne, as she went two-under over her final five holes to improve her counting score.

Arizona State is back in action tomorrow, with the second round beginning at 9:20 AM MST. All five Sun Devils will tee-off on Hole 10, with one starting every 10 minutes. The Maroon & Gold will be paired with No. 5 Wake Forest and No. 17 LSU. Here is how the Sun Devils will tee-off tomorrow:
