SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Sun Devil Women's Golf's Alexandra Forsterling was named the Pac-12 Golfer of the Month, the conference announced on Thursday.
Following an excellent start to the Spring at the Match in the Desert, Forsterling was named the top female golfer in the conference during the month of January.
"I am so happy for Lexi being named Pac-12 Golfer of the Month," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye remarked. "She started off our spring season strong and confident. It is terrific to see her hard work paying off!!"
Forsterling picked up right where she left off in the Fall, putting together a fantastic performance at the Match in the Desert. She continues to play at an extremely high level in her senior season, finishing in the Top-15 at all four of her events.
For the fourth consecutive time, Sun Devil Women's Golf won the team championship at the Match in the Desert, impressing over the two days at Superstition Mountain Golf Club. Arizona State (-18/558) fired back-to-back rounds well below par, defeating No. 2 Oklahoma State by five strokes. The 278 (-10) posted by the Maroon & Gold on the first day was the best round by any team at the Match in the Desert while their 280 (-8) finishing effort was the second-best.
It is the 95th team championship in program history, 16 of which have come in the Farr-Kaye era. The Sun Devils paced a field that included four of the eight finalists at the 2021 NCAA Championship, as they defeated No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 14 Arizona, No. 15 UCLA, and No. 24 Ole Miss.
Alexandra Forsterling led the way individually, helping Arizona State claim their fourth-straight Match in the Desert crown. The senior continues her incredible final season in Tempe, earning a career-best second-place finish. She followed up a career low 66 on day one with another great round, carding a 69 (-3) to finish the tournament at 135 (-9). She may have missed the individual title by one stroke, but she recorded her fifth-career Top-10 finish.
She was nearly flawless both days, bogeying only two holes compared to nine birdies and an eagle. She was dominant on both par four (3.75) and par five (4.3) holes, finishing with the best scoring average in each category. At an event with eight of the Top-50 and 14 of the Top-100 golfers in Golfstat's individual rankings in the field, Forsterling proved she was one of the best in the nation.
The Berlin, Germany native becomes the fifth Sun Devil to win Pac-12 Golfer of the Month in the Missy Farr-Kaye era. Forsterling finds herself on an exclusive and prestigious list, as past honorees included Linn Grant (March, 2020), Olivia Mehaffey (April, 2019), Linnea Strom (April, 2016), and Monica Vaughn (February, 2016).
Sun Devil Men's Golf's David Puig was named the top male golfer in the conference for the month, making it a clean sweep for the Arizona State golf programs.
Thanks to her efforts, Forsterling moved up to No. 9 in the Golfweek/Sagarin women's collegiate golf rankings. This honor comes after Forsterling accepted an invite to the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur, competing for a chance to play at iconic Augusta National Golf Club. Forsterling already has competed at one NCAA Championship and looks to lead her team to another, this one at Grayahwk Golf Club in Scottsdale May 20-25.
