The Arizona State men's ice hockey team (13-12-0) put on an absolute show, collecting a dominant 6-2 win against No. 9/11 Northeastern (15-5-1) on Tuesday night. The win is ASU's fifth-straight against a ranked team.
Yes, it was just as amazing, fun, and thrilling as imaginable.
ASU scheduled a last-minute midweek matchup against NU, which statistics showed, would be a battle between the Sun Devils' offense, one of the most productive in the country (averages 3.42 goals per game) and NU who carries arguably the best college goaltender on its roster (averages 1.25 GAA). And, to date, NU has never won a game when allowing more than two goals in a game.
Haters would say the scale was tipped out of ASU's favor. But they just don't know Sun Devil Hockey.
Freshman Josh Doan opened the scoring early with a power play goal that brought ASU to a 1-1 tie with NU. He finished the night with three points (1G, 2A) to take the sole lead of highest-scoring freshman in the country with 25 points on the season.
Colin Theisen entered the picture, scoring a goal and securing a milestone few college players ever attain - his 100th NCAA point. He became the 19th active NCAA Division I men's ice hockey player with 100 career points (and one of them just happens to be teammate Johnny Walker). In the next period, he nailed another goal to make it 101 career points (48G, 53A).
The Huskies managed to tie the game again, but the Sun Devils went on to score four unanswered goals, initiated by Chris Grando who battled in the crease to give ASU the lead again. Grando's goal eventually became the game-winner, his first of the season.
Theisen's second goal came next followed by a goal from rookie Jack Jensen, who kicked off scoring in the third period. Matthew Kopperud put the nail in the coffin with an empty net goal with three minutes left in regulation.
Ben Kraws made his 14th start in net and laid out competitive performance that kept NU from regaining any territory on the Sun Devils. He made 27 saves and extended his record to 8-6-0.
The game is ASU's fifth-straight win against a ranked team. ASU outshot NU, 46-29, the second-most shots sent by ASU this season (50 vs. St. Thomas).

17:32 ASU (3-2): Chris Grando stuck through a puck battle in the crease, sneaking the third goal against Levi and notching the eventual game-winner.
18:30 ASU - PPG - (4-2): One hundred points wasn't enough.. So Theisen notched his 101th point with a power play goal. Again, the Huskies left Theisen unguarded and he snuck between the circles and fired another rocket over one of the top goaltenders in the country in Devon Levi.
