SAN FRANCISCO -- Sun Devil Soccer placed four student-athletes on the Pac-12 All-Conference Team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. The individual awards and the All-Pac-12 Women's Soccer Team are selected by the Pac-12 head coaches.
Arizona State boasts three players on the All-Conference Second Team, including juniors Nicole Douglas and Alexia Delgado and sophomore Lieske Carleer. Canadian freshman Jazmine Wilkinson was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Douglas finished the regular season with a team-high eight goals and 18 points in 2021. The forward started all 15 games for the Sun Devils and her performance on the pitch boosted her into the program's career record book at No. 7 with 66 points, tied at No. 5 in both career goals with 28 and game-winning goals with nine. Douglas led the ASU offense that continuously pressured opposing goalkeepers. In seven out of 15 games, ASU forced netminders to make more than six saves in a match. In an eventual overtime win, ASU turned up the heat making Grand Canyon save a season-high 14 shots on goal in a single game.
Delgado made appearances in all 15 matches and notched a team-high six assists which also ties for second-most in the Pac-12 Conference. Her eight points and six assists are both single-season highs for the junior. She scored her first goal of the season in the tie against Washington to protect ASU's undefeated streak.
Carleer played as the key figure in ASU's backline and helped goalkeeper Giulia Cascapera notch five shutouts this Spring. In the first nine games, ASU allowed only six goals against and never conceded more than six shots on goal. Through 15 games played, only one team could get more than 10 shots on goal against ASU and that required double overtime. Carleer helped stifle top contenders UCLA, Stanford, and USC to three or fewer shots on goal.
The three Sun Devils on the list on the Second Team this year bring ASU to 82 all-time Pac-12 All-Conference First or Second Team selections in history. It is the first All-Conference nomination for Douglas, Delgado, and Carleer.
Rookie Jazmine Wilkinson got the nod from other Pac-12 head coaches, landing on the All-Freshman squad. Wilkinson scored goals in back-to-back games, including the game-winner in ASU's upset of the reigning champions, Stanford. Her two goals led the Sun Devil freshmen class as did her 13 shots. The freshman quickly became a consistent presence in the lineup, starting on the pitch at the first whistle in 12 of 15 games.
The team looks to participate in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014. The Sun Devils are scheduled to face Siena on Wednesday, April 28 in Cary, North Carolina.
